Hi,đđœ I'm Aarti. I am a student and teacher of Classical yoga. This is not a style, but rather an attitude or approach to the practice. I was trained my lineage teachers who follow the teachings and philosophy shared by Swami Sivananda.
I spend a lot of time, particularly on social media as an educator of traditional teachings - a rewarding albeit challenging aspect of my role as a teacher.
Below I am share why traditional teachings are special and why you should consider classes and courses with me and other classical yoga teachers.
Classical yoga is a disruption of a modern yoga narrative that yoga is a fitness trend limited to only a few, predominantly: fit, flexible, skinny, young women. Instead, traditional teachers view yoga as a spiritual journey of awakening that includes a necessary physical component.
Â
Classical yoga is a call to a complete practice, including asana (postures) pranayama (breathwork), pratyahara (turning inwards), dharana (focus), dhyana (meditation), mudra (hand gestures), yama-niyama (ethics), bhakti (devotional practices) and more...
Â
A classical yoga practice is beautiful, complete and well-rounded. We are meant to have exposure to the wholeness of the practice as so much wisdom and personal connection can be found when we explore all of it.
Â
Indigenous wisdom should be respected. Modern yoga in the west is a multi-billion dollar industry driven by apparel corporations and insta-celebrities who promote a fitness narrative while giving little if anything back to the source culture. This devalues the traditions and the people who birthed these ways in the Indian sub-continent.
Â
Classical yoga is what trained in and what I practice myself. I share what my elders and lineage teachers shared with me over the last 17 + years. It's a good practice and I love it dearly.
Â
I would love to have you learn and study classical yoga with me. Here are the ways to work with me:
LIVE: I offer three sessions per year: fall, winter and spring. Sign up for my newsletter to find out when my next live session is enrolling Click here for live session info
On-demand: Take class from a library of 50+ classes (and growing). New classes are added each month and the class fee is very affordable. Click here for on-demand info
Mentorship: New and long-time students can benefit from private classes and one-on-one mentorship. Watch your practice deepen in powerful ways by working closely together to deepen in your sadhana Click here for mentorship info
Hatha Yoga Immersion: This program is so dear to my heart. Once a year I take applicants for an immersion that is all about creating a home practice while diving deep into the traditions of hatha yoga. With live lecture classes, support group and practical recordings, this immersion is a supportive way to really learn yoga without taking a teachers-training program.
